Improved resource management and waste prevention are some of the key words in the future waste management policy, where we must focus on both recycling and prevention. To tackle the resource crisis we need to recycle a lot more of the valuable resources in our waste. Instead of incinerating waste to exploit the energy we should see the valuable resources in waste.

Therefore it is vital to promote green technologies and to design products that use resources more efficiently while ensuring that the resources can be included in new products again and again. If already in the design phase producers consider using materials that can be recycled many times we save even more resources.
EU priorities on waste
The EU Commission has recently presented "Roadmap towards a resource efficient Europe". The overall objective is to launch a fundamental shift towards a resource efficient, sustainable community towards 2050 when the economy is competitive and offers a high standard of living with very low environmental impact. In this connection waste policy as resource policy is important.
