Chemicals - regulation and sustainable chemestry

How to reach a greener and more resource efficient society
Denmark considers the Commission's “Roadmap to a Resource Efficient Europe” as a cornerstone in the green transformation that is needed for steering Europe through the climate and resource crisis and the current financial crisis. A new focused Seventh Environment Action Programme (7EAP) will be a way forward, including innovation on sustainable chemistry.

Chemicals, health and environment
Chemicals have many effects on health and the environment. Issues of high concern are related to endocrine disruptors, combination effects of chemicals and nanomaterials. It is necessary to develop necessary instruments, e.g. uniform criteria and new test methods, to identify endocrine disruptors and address them in relevant sectors.

Regulation of chemicals on a global level
The Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) is instrumental in reaching the goal that by 2020 chemicals will be produced and used in ways that minimise significant adverse impacts on the environment and human health. Denmark will among other things also facilitate the negotiations on a new mercury convention.
